music arrangement
Adapted musical composition
An arrangement is a version of a musical composition adapted for different instruments, voices, or performance contexts than the original.
A symphony might be arranged for piano, a pop song for orchestra, a jazz standard for big band.
The arranger makes creative decisions about harmony, rhythm, and texture while preserving the essential melody: Her arrangement of the folk tune added lush string harmonies.
Arrangement also refers to the craft itself: He studied arrangement at Berklee.
