murrelet
Small diving seabird
A murrelet is a small seabird of the auk family, found in northern Pacific and Atlantic waters.
Unlike most seabirds, some species nest in old-growth forests rather than on cliffs, flying inland to reach tree branches.
The marbled murrelet's secretive nesting habits kept its breeding sites unknown to science until 1974.
