movie musical
Singing film genre
A movie musical is a film in which songs and often dance numbers are woven into the narrative.
The genre flourished in Hollywood's golden age with lavish productions, declined in popularity, then periodically revived: We watched classic movie musicals like Singin' in the Rain.
Distinguished from concert films or documentaries about musicians by its fictional storyline.
