mountain panther
Highland big cat
Mountain panther is an informal name for the cougar or mountain lion, the large tawny cat native to the Americas.
The term emphasizes the animal's power and stealth in mountainous terrain: We spotted tracks from a mountain panther along the ridge.
Like mountain lion, it reflects regional naming preferences for an animal with dozens of common names.
