ghost cat
Deceased pet apparition
A ghost cat is a cat that seems to appear and vanish mysteriously, or the perceived presence of a deceased cat—hearing phantom meows, feeling weight on the bed, catching movement in peripheral vision.
The term also applies to elusive wild cats rarely seen by humans, like cougars: Ghost cats roam these mountains, but you'll never spot one.
