mouflons

Horned mountain sheep

Mouflons are wild sheep native to mountainous regions of Europe and western Asia, considered ancestors of domestic sheep.

They have reddish-brown coats and curved horns, with males sporting larger, more dramatic spirals.

The word is the plural of mouflon: A small herd of mouflons grazed on the rocky slope.
