motion tracker
Senses nearby activity
A motion tracker is a device or system that detects and follows movement.
In gaming and virtual reality, motion trackers translate physical gestures into digital input: The motion tracker picked up every swing of her arms.
In science fiction, particularly the *Alien* franchise, a motion tracker is a handheld scanner that detects nearby movement, producing the iconic pinging sound as threats approach.
Security systems use motion trackers to trigger alarms or cameras when someone enters a space.
