monkey-puzzle

Spiky South American

A monkey-puzzle is a large evergreen tree native to Chile, with distinctive overlapping triangular leaves that cover its branches in sharp, scale-like armor.

The name supposedly comes from the idea that even a monkey would be puzzled trying to climb it.

Also called monkey-puzzle tree or Chilean pine.
