mondegreen
Misheard song phrase
A mondegreen is a mishearing of a phrase, typically in song lyrics or poetry, that produces a new phrase with a different meaning.
The classic example is hearing "laid him on the green" as "Lady Mondegreen." Mondegreens often persist because the misheard version makes just enough sense in context.
For years I thought the lyric was "wrapped up like a douche" instead of "revved up like a deuce."
