mondegreens
Garbled song lyrics
Mondegreens are misheard words or phrases, especially in song lyrics or poetry, that produce a plausible but incorrect alternative.
The term comes from a mishearing of the Scottish ballad line "laid him on the green" as "Lady Mondegreen." Classic examples include hearing "excuse me while I kiss the sky" as excuse me while I kiss this guy or "'Scuse me while I kiss the sky" rendered as something about Guy.
Everyone has their own collection of mondegreens from songs they misheard as children.
