mislocation
Erroneous position assignment
Mislocation is the act of placing something in the wrong spot, or the state of being wrongly placed.
The word appears in technical and administrative contexts—a mislocation of inventory, a mislocation of funds in accounting.
It can also describe spatial errors: The mislocation of the sensor caused faulty readings.
Less common than misplacement, which covers similar ground.
