midnight releases
Products debuting late
Midnight releases are product launches—typically video games, books, or films—timed to begin at 12:00 AM on release day.
Stores stay open late and fans line up to be among the first to own highly anticipated titles: We waited outside GameStop for the midnight release of the new Call of Duty.
The practice has declined as digital downloads allow instant access at midnight without leaving home.
