autograph hunting

Autograph hunting is the pursuit of obtaining signatures from famous people, typically celebrities, athletes, or public figures.

The practice ranges from casual opportunism—approaching someone spotted in public—to organized effort at events, stage doors, or airports.

Some hunters collect for personal satisfaction; others resell signatures commercially.
