meta joke
Comedy about comedy
A meta joke is a joke that comments on the nature of jokes themselves, or draws attention to its own structure as a joke.
Rather than simply being funny, it acknowledges the conventions of humor: I'd tell you a meta joke, but you've probably already heard this one.
The humor comes from self-awareness—the joke knows it's a joke and makes that awareness part of the punchline.
