meta-knowledge
Understanding your understanding
Meta-knowledge is knowledge about knowledge itself—understanding what you know, how you know it, and the limits of that knowing.
It includes awareness of your own cognitive processes, the reliability of your sources, and where your understanding might be incomplete: Good researchers have meta-knowledge about which databases cover which fields.
In artificial intelligence, meta-knowledge refers to a system's information about its own reasoning capabilities and knowledge base.
