merchantability
Fit for sale
Merchantability is a legal term for the quality of being fit for ordinary sale and use.
When goods have merchantability, they meet the basic standards a reasonable buyer would expect—they work as intended, are properly packaged, and match their description.
The concept appears most often in contract law and warranty disputes: The lawsuit claimed the defective brakes breached the implied warranty of merchantability.
