memory buffer
Data holding area
A memory buffer is a temporary storage area in a computer's memory that holds data while it's being transferred between locations or processes.
Buffers smooth out speed differences—when a printer can't keep up with incoming data, the buffer holds the overflow until the printer catches up.
The video kept stuttering because the memory buffer couldn't fill fast enough.
Buffer overflow occurs when data exceeds the allocated space, a common source of software vulnerabilities.
