Camptown Races

Foster minstrel tune

Camptown Races is a minstrel song written by Stephen Foster in 1850, featuring the nonsense refrain "doo-dah, doo-dah." The song describes horse racing and betting, with the memorable line about betting on a "bob-tailed nag." It remains widely recognized, though its minstrel origins make it culturally fraught: The band played Camptown Races at the county fair.
