megaspore
Larger botanical spore
A megaspore is the larger of two types of spores produced by certain plants, developing into the female gametophyte that produces egg cells.
In flowering plants, the megaspore forms within the ovule and eventually gives rise to the embryo sac.
The smaller counterpart, the microspore, develops into pollen.
