A meet-cute is the charming or amusing first encounter between two people who will become romantically involved—a staple of romantic comedies.
The term originated in Hollywood screenwriting to describe scenes engineered for maximum adorability: strangers reaching for the same book, colliding while jogging, or getting stuck in an elevator.
Their meet-cute involved a mix-up at the coffee shop.
The word can also function as a verb: We meet-cuted at a dog park.
