master gardeners
Certified horticulture volunteers
Master gardeners are volunteers who complete extensive horticultural training through cooperative extension programs, then provide gardening education to their communities.
The certification requires coursework in soil science, pest management, and plant care, followed by volunteer service hours.
Ask the master gardeners at the farmer's market about your tomato blight.
The term sometimes applies loosely to any highly skilled gardener, but the formal designation involves specific credentials.
