brown thumbs
Hopeless indoor gardeners
Brown thumbs is the opposite of a green thumb—a lack of talent for keeping plants alive.
Someone with brown thumbs kills houseplants through neglect, overwatering, or mysterious incompetence: I've got brown thumbs; even my cactus died.
The brown suggests dead, withered vegetation rather than healthy green growth.
