marsquake
Red planet shaking
A marsquake is seismic activity on Mars—the Martian equivalent of an earthquake.
The term follows the pattern of moonquake and starquake.
NASA's InSight lander detected hundreds of marsquakes beginning in 2019, providing data about the planet's interior structure: The marsquake registered a magnitude of 4.7.
