made up

Fabricated from nothing

Made up describes something invented or fabricated rather than real: a made-up story, a made-up word.

It also means wearing cosmetics: She was fully made up for the party.

Two people who have reconciled after a disagreement are made up: We had a fight but now we're made up.

The hyphenated form typically modifies nouns; the unhyphenated form follows verbs.
