First or second-year
A lowerclassman is a student in the first or second year of a four-year program, typically at an American high school or college—a freshman or sophomore.
The term distinguishes newer students from upperclassmen (juniors and seniors): Lowerclassmen aren't allowed to park on campus.
The feminine lowerclasswoman exists but is rarely used.
