lollipop ladies
School crossing helpers
Lollipop ladies are crossing guards who help schoolchildren cross streets safely, stationed near schools during arrival and dismissal times.
The term is British, named for the round stop signs on poles they carry—resembling lollipops.
The male equivalent is lollipop man; collectively, lollipop people.
The lollipop lady waved the children across.
