lollipop men
Child crossing guards
Lollipop men are crossing guards who help pedestrians—especially schoolchildren—cross busy streets safely.
The term is British, named for the round stop signs on poles they carry, which resemble lollipops.
The lollipop men wave traffic to a halt each morning.
The singular is lollipop man; lollipop lady is the female equivalent.
