local backup
On-site data duplicate
A local backup is a copy of data stored on physical media you control—an external hard drive, USB stick, or network-attached storage in your home or office.
Contrasted with cloud backup, which stores copies on remote servers.
Local backups offer faster recovery and don't require internet access, but risk loss from fire, theft, or hardware failure at the same location as the original: I keep a local backup on my desktop and another copy in the cloud.
