lisping

Substituting th-sounds involuntarily

Lisping is speaking with a lisp—substituting "th" sounds for "s" or "z," so "sing" becomes "thing." The term describes the speech pattern itself or characterizes someone's manner of speaking: She spoke in a lisping whisper.

Children often lisp before mastering certain sounds; in adults it may be affectation or speech impediment.
