lip-syncer

Silent vocal pretender

A lip-syncer is someone who moves their lips in synchronization with recorded audio, creating the appearance of singing or speaking live.

Performers lip-sync at concerts when vocal demands are too strenuous, or in music videos where live recording is impractical.

The term often carries a whiff of inauthenticity: The pop star was exposed as a lip-syncer.

Also spelled lip-syncher.
