A liger is the hybrid offspring of a male lion and a female tiger.
Ligers are the largest of all living cats, typically exceeding both parent species in size.
They occur only in captivity, since lions and tigers don't share territory in the wild.
The reverse cross—male tiger with female lion—produces a tigon.
