leather stitching

Binding tanned hides

Leather stitching is the craft of joining pieces of leather using needle and thread, or the stitches themselves.

Unlike fabric sewing, leather stitching typically uses waxed thread and pre-punched holes, since needles can't easily pierce thick hide.

The technique appears in saddlery, bookbinding, and fine goods: The leather stitching on that bag is all done by hand.
