leaked memo
Unauthorized internal release
A leaked memo is an internal document that has been disclosed to outsiders without authorization.
Memos circulate within organizations—between executives, among departments—and aren't meant for public view.
When one leaks, it usually reveals something embarrassing or newsworthy: A leaked memo showed executives knew about the safety problems for months.
The leak may come from a whistleblower, a disgruntled employee, or someone with political motives.
