lava fields
Cooled magma expanses
Lava fields are expanses of solidified volcanic rock covering the landscape, formed when molten lava flows and cools.
They range from smooth, ropy surfaces to jagged, broken terrain depending on the lava type.
Some are ancient and weathered; others remain barren and black: We hiked across the lava fields of Iceland.
Also called lava beds.
