lantern festival
Glowing paper gathering
A lantern festival is a celebration featuring decorative illuminated lanterns, often made of paper or silk.
The most famous is the Chinese Lantern Festival marking the end of Lunar New Year, when people release sky lanterns or float them on water.
Similar festivals occur across East and Southeast Asia: We watched thousands of lanterns rise into the night sky at the lantern festival in Chiang Mai.
