lang syne
Days of old
Lang syne is a Scottish phrase meaning long ago or times past.
It survives almost exclusively in "Auld Lang Syne," the traditional song sung at New Year's celebrations and farewells.
Outside that context, the phrase is rare, though some Scots still use it: We haven't seen each other since lang syne.
