landed immigrant
Permanent Canadian newcomer
A landed immigrant is a person who has been granted permanent residence in a country but has not yet become a citizen.
The term is used primarily in Canadian immigration law, where it distinguishes permanent residents from citizens and temporary visitors: My parents came as landed immigrants in 1985 and became citizens five years later.
