labour camps
Punitive work facilities
Labour camps are detention facilities where prisoners are forced to perform hard physical work, often under brutal conditions.
Governments have used them to punish political dissidents, exploit cheap labor, or systematically eliminate populations, as with the Soviet gulag system or Nazi concentration camps.
The term carries strong connotations of state oppression and human rights abuse.
Millions perished in Stalin's labour camps.
