knockup

Pre-match hitting session

A knockup is a warm-up session before a tennis or squash match, where players hit the ball back and forth without keeping score.

In British informal usage, a knockup can also mean a quick improvised construction: We built a knockup shelter from scrap wood.

The verb knock up has several meanings: to wake someone by knocking, to assemble hastily, or—in American slang—to make pregnant: He knocked her up in high school.
