kick back

Take it easy

Kick back means to relax or take it easy: I'm just going to kick back and watch TV tonight.

A kickback is an illicit payment—money returned secretly as part of a corrupt deal: The contractor paid kickbacks to the inspector.

To kick back money is to return a portion, usually improperly.

The relaxation sense is casual; the payment sense carries connotations of bribery.
