jumping mouse

Bounding small mammal

A jumping mouse is a small North American rodent with extremely long hind legs and tail, capable of leaping several feet when startled.

Unlike house mice, jumping mice are wild, nocturnal, and hibernate through winter.

They inhabit meadows and woodland edges: We spotted a jumping mouse bounding through the tall grass.
