intravenous infusion

Fluid through veins

Intravenous infusion is the slow, controlled delivery of fluids, medications, or nutrients directly into a vein, typically through a tube and needle or catheter.

Distinguished from a quick injection, an infusion drips gradually over minutes or hours: The chemotherapy was administered by intravenous infusion.

Often shortened to IV infusion or simply infusion.
