internal displacement
Fleeing within borders
Internal displacement is the forced movement of people within their own country's borders, typically due to armed conflict, natural disasters, or persecution.
Unlike refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) haven't crossed an international boundary: The earthquake caused massive internal displacement in the northern provinces.
The term appears frequently in humanitarian and policy contexts.
