insular script
Irish monastic writing
Insular script is a medieval style of handwriting developed in Ireland and Britain, used from roughly the 6th to 9th centuries.
Characterized by rounded letterforms and distinctive decorative elements, it was the script of illuminated manuscripts like the Book of Kells.
The name reflects its origin in the British Isles—the "islands" off continental Europe.
