inkers

They darken lines

Inkers are people who apply ink, especially in comic book production.

In the traditional comics workflow, a penciler sketches the art, then an inker traces over it in ink to create clean, reproducible lines.

The role requires artistic judgment—good inkers enhance depth, shadow, and mood rather than merely tracing.

The penciler got top billing, but the inkers did half the work.
