initialising

Setting things up

Initialising is the British spelling of initializing—setting something to its starting state or preparing it for use.

In computing, initialising a variable assigns it an initial value; initialising a disk formats it for first use.

The term applies broadly to any setup process: The system is initialising, please wait.
