Info dumping is overwhelming someone with information all at once, typically more than they need or can absorb.
The term originated in writing criticism for passages that halt narrative momentum to explain backstory or world-building: The first chapter is just info dumping about the magic system.
It now applies to conversation too—someone info dumps when they unload expertise without reading their audience: He started info dumping about train schedules and I tuned out.
