Mansplaining is when a man explains something to a woman in a condescending way that assumes she lacks knowledge she actually possesses.
The term captures a specific dynamic: a man holding forth on a topic while ignoring signals that his listener already understands it, often better than he does.
He started mansplaining her own research to her.
