influenza B
Winter respiratory illness
Influenza B is one of two types of flu virus that cause seasonal epidemics in humans, the other being influenza A.
It generally produces milder illness and mutates more slowly, making it somewhat more predictable.
Unlike influenza A, it doesn't infect other animal species and thus poses no pandemic threat.
The lab confirmed it was influenza B, not A.
