indie kids
Vinyl-collecting young nonconformists
Indie kids are young people whose tastes and identity center on independent music, film, and fashion—things outside the commercial mainstream.
The term emerged in the 2000s for a recognizable subculture: thrift-store clothes, obscure band t-shirts, vinyl collections, and a studied indifference to popular trends.
The indie kids hung out at the record store after school.
Like most youth subculture labels, it can be self-identification or gentle mockery.
